PHOENIX (October 12, 2018) – Phoenix Rising FC closes out the regular season tomorrow at home against Portland Timbers 2. The club can clinch a top 2 finish with a win. The match kicks off at 7:30pm, and fans can watch locally on Yurview Arizona, Cox channels 4&1004 in Phoenix and 7&1007 in Tucson. Fans can also stream the match nationwide on ESPN+. The match will be live on the radio on El Patron 93.7 FM (Spanish).
Saturday will be the last regular season game for Didier Drogba. Drogba joined Phoenix Rising FC during the 2017 season, scoring on his debut on June 10, 2017, at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex against Vancouver Whitecaps 2. In his Rising FC career, Drogba has scored 14 goals in 21 games. For his career, he has played for eight teams, scoring 213 goals over that time. He also scored 65 goals for the Ivory Coast National Team in 104 appearances.
This is the third-consecutive year that Phoenix Rising FC closes out the regular season against Portland Timbers 2. The home team has won the previous two times, including a 4-1 Rising FC victory last season.
Portland Timbers 2 (16-13-4) is currently 6th in the Western Conference with 52 points. They have clinched a spot in the USL Playoffs, and are now battling for playoff positioning. Coming into Saturday’s match, Portland has dropped two straight, including a 2-0 loss to Reno 1868 FC last Wednesday.
Saturday will be the second time these two clubs have faced each other this season. Phoenix won the previous matchup, 4-1, on the road in August. Portland leads the all-time series, 4-3-1, however, Phoenix have won three consecutive meetings.
