PHOENIX (August 10, 2018) — Phoenix Rising FC is set for another clash between Western Conference powers when it hosts Orange County SC on Saturday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and fans can watch locally on Yurview Arizona, Cox channels 4&1004 in Phoenix and 7&1007 in Tucson. They can also stream the match on ESPN+. The match will also be simulcast live on the radio on El Patron 93.7 FM (Spanish language) and Fox Sports 910 AM (English).
Phoenix Rising FC (12-5-5) is coming off a 4-1 thrashing of Portland Timbers 2 on the road last Sunday, a result that moved it even on points with Saturday’s opponent, Orange County SC, for second place in the USL Western Conference. In the win over Portland, forward Chris Cortez scored two goals and added an assist, earning him USL Team of the Week honors.
Saturday’s match will mark the second time PRFC has faced a club in the top two of the Western Conference in three weeks after it traveled to first-place Real Monarchs SLC in late July. With a win on Saturday, Rising FC can leapfrog Orange County and take sole possession of second place.
Phoenix Rising is closing in on a couple milestones this year. PRFC’s 41 points accrued this season is already the second-highest total in club history and the team still has 12 matches left to reach the high-water mark of 58 points set last season. Rising FC, which has scored 40 goals this season, is also just 10 goals shy of tying the club record for most goals in a season, also set last year, at 50.
Individually, forward Chris Cortez’s brace gave him 11 goals on the season, tied for the third-most in all of the USL. Cortez is also just three goals away from tying the club’s single-season goals record of 14.
Orange County SC comes to Phoenix on a five-match unbeaten streak, including a 2-1 win over Swope Park Rangers its last time out. OCSC forward Thomas Enevoldsen has scored 12 goals this season to lead both his club and the USL.
Saturday will be the third meeting between the two clubs this year. The teams drew, 1-1, at Orange County to open the season before PRFC picked up a 1-0 win at home in late June despite an early red card, ending a run of four consecutive draws in the all-time series between the two, a series PRFC leads 7-4-5.
