Below is the full legislative proclamation made in the Arizona State Legislature.
Whereas, the Phoenix Rising Football Club is Arizona’s highest-level professional soccer team. The Phoenix Rising FC was established in 2016 and is a member of the USL Championship, the largest Division 2 professional league in the world; and
Whereas, in the team’s short existence, the club has won two Western Conference Titles in 2018 and 2020 and the USL Championship’s 2019 Regular Season Title; and
Whereas, the Phoenix Rising FC holds the record for the longest win streak in American professional soccer history at 20 matches;
Whereas, the Phoenix Rising is excited to be playing games at their new stadium location in Phoenix at 38th Street and Washington, the grounds of the former Greyhound Park; and
Whereas, the Phoenix Rising supports bringing health and fitness to kids across Arizona through Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer Charities, a foundation established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focusing on breaking financial barriers for families in need with children wishing to participate in youth soccer. The Phoenix Rising Soccer charity raises funds to pay for soccer balls, shoes, registration, uniforms, equipment, training and travel for away games and tournaments; and
Whereas, the United States will soon be hosting the FIFA World Cup along with Canada and Mexico and the US alone will host 60 international World Cup matches; and
Whereas, the sport of soccer will only continue to grow in our state and we are honored to have Phoenix Rising as Arizona’s professional team;
Therefore, I, Ben Toma, Speaker of the House and Representative Mariana Sandoval, invite the members of the Arizona House of Representatives to join us in proclaiming May 8, 2023, as Phoenix Rising Day.
