PHOENIX (August 7, 2018) — Phoenix Rising forward Chris Cortez was named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 21 of the 2018 USL season the league announced today. On Sunday afternoon, Cortez scored a brace in addition to notching an assist in a 4-1 win over Timbers 2. Cortez remains the club's leading goal scorer this season with 11 goals and is tied for third in the league's Golden Boot race.
This is the second time this season Cortez has been recognized by the league. He was the USL Player of the Week in Week 2 of the season after recording a hat trick against Oklahoma City.
Phoenix Rising returns home Saturday for a 2-vs-3 showdown with Western Conference rival Orange County Soccer Club. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Phoenix Rising car flag courtesy of Showcase Honda.
