PHOENIX (October 18, 2018) – Phoenix Rising FC face Portland Timbers 2 in their first-ever home playoff match Friday night. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., so that fans can welcome the players to the stadium during a red-carpet arrival event prior to the match. The first 3,000 fans will receive blackout t-shirts courtesy of Arizona Complete Health. The match will also be a $1 Beer Night presented by Bud Light. In seven previous $1 beer nights, the club is 7-0-0, scoring 19 goals and keeping five clean sheets in those games.
The match kicks off at 7:30pm, and fans can watch locally on Yurview Arizona, Cox channels 4&1004 in Phoenix and 7&1007 in Tucson. Fans can also stream the match nationwide on ESPN+. The match will be live on the radio on El Patron 93.7 FM (Spanish language).
Friday’s win-or-go-home Western Conference Quarterfinal will be Phoenix Rising FC’s second-ever playoff match. Last year, the club made their USL Cup Playoffs debut as the fifth-seed in the Western Conference, traveling to Swope Park Rangers in the first round. The match took two days to complete, due to inclement weather and an ensuing delay after the first half. Phoenix eventually fell to Swope Park on penalties.
Portland Timbers 2 (17-13-4) finished 6th in the Western Conference with 55 points. They secured their seeding in the Western Conference with a 1-0 win against Phoenix last Saturday. This is the first time in Timbers 2 history that the club has been in the USL Cup Playoffs.
Friday’s playoff opener will be a rematch of Saturday’s regular-season finale between Phoenix and Portland, and the third time this year that the two teams will face each other. Portland leads the all-time series, 5-3-1, but the two clubs split the season series in 2018. It will be the first time these two teams meet in the playoffs.
