
PHOENIX (April 20, 2018) — Phoenix Rising FC returns to the Phoenix Rising Sports Complex to take on Swope Park Rangers for the first time since the visiting club eliminated Phoenix from the 2017 USL playoffs. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and fans can watch the match locally on Yurview Arizona, Cox channels 4&1004 in Phoenix and 7&1007 in Tucson. They can also stream the match on ESPN+. The match will also be simulcast live on the radio on El Patron 93.7 FM (Spanish language) and Fox Sports 910 AM (English).
Phoenix Rising FC (3-1-1) last played on Wednesday, April 11, in a 1-0 shutout of LA Galaxy II. In that match, forward Didier Drogba made his first start of the season and scored the match's lone goal with an assist from Midfielder Gladson Awako. Goalkeeper Carl Woszczsynki earned his second clean sheet of the season.
Drogba's performance earned him Honorable Mention USL Team of the Week honors while his teammate, defender Amadou Dia, was named to the USL Team of the Week for his defensive play in the shutout. Dia won 14 of 21 duels overall and recorded two tackles, two interceptions and three clearances in the match.
The club's 10 points in five matches is a record start for Phoenix Rising. The previous record was nine points set in 2015. The club is also off to a record start defensively, allowing just three goals in the first five matches of the season.
Swope Park (3-1-1) also comes off a long layoff after their last scheduled match was postponed. The Rangers' last match came on April 7, a 1-1 draw at San Antonio FC.
This will be the first time the two teams meet since their playoff showdown in 2017. In that match, Drogba scored an extra time goal in the 99th minute but Swope Park's Amer Didic equalized in the 109th minute and the Rangers went on to advance in PKs.
Saturday's match is Military Appreciation Night presented by APS. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Phoenix Rising camo drawstring bag.
