PHOENIX, Arizona (July 26, 2022) — Phoenix Rising FC has signed U.S. Under-20 center back Marcus Ferkranus, on loan from MLS side LA Galaxy, pending league approval, the club announced today.
“We are very excited to add a player like Marcus,” said Rising head coach Rick Schantz. “His performance with the Under-20 U.S. National Team was very strong. He’s extremely athletic and very aggressive. It will be a good competition for our center backs. It will improve our team overall. I can’t wait to get them here in to see how he does with our group.”
LA Galaxy retains the right to recall Ferkranus at any point this season. The 19-year-old center back was recently part of the U.S. Under-20 side that went 6-0-1 at the Concacaf 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championships and qualified for the 2024 Olympic games in Paris. Ferkranus played 384 minutes in the tournament in which the U.S. allowed only two goals.
Ferkranus, 19, has appeared four times, starting twice for LA Galaxy II this season. The center back saw time in 26 matches for Los Dos last season before signing a first-team contract with the MLS side in 2022. In USL Championship competition, Ferkranus has 74 clearances, 25 interceptions, and won 64 duels while completing 1,018 passes.
