TUCSON, Ariz. (February 7, 2019) — Phoenix Rising opened its preseason with 0-0 draw against MLS side Minnesota United FC in the opener of the 2019 Mobile Mini Sun Cup.
Rising FC had the better of the scoring opportunities in the first half. Forward Adam Jahn nearly scored in the 11th minute after the Minnesota United goalkeeper spilled his save toward the goal line. But the goalkeeper dove to the ball and covered it up just before Jahn arrived. Then in the 28th, Jahn had another opportunity, this time getting to the end of a Jason Johnson cross. But the shot went right to the goalkeeper.
The second half Phoenix lineup featured a mix of Rising FC and FC Tucson (USL League One) players. Despite keeping Minnesota United off the board, the club couldn’t find the back of the net in the second half with limited scoring opportunities.
Phoenix Rising plays its next match in the 2019 Mobile Mini Sun Cup on Thursday, February 7th, against Sporting KC. That match will be played at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex and kickoff at 6:00 p.m. (The match will consist of two 75-minute frames) Fans can purchase their tickets now by going to www.phxrisingfc.com
