PHOENIX, Arizona (Saturday, June 18) – Phoenix Rising FC lost, 4-3, tonight to Loudoun United FC at Segra Field.
Rising started off with a great opportunity that was set up by Njie who recovered the ball in midfield and started a counterattack by making a quick pass to Hurst. Hurst sent the ball wide to Quinn, who beat Loudoun United goalkeeper Joe Rice, low to the back post to make it 1-0.
Quinn had another chance for a brace in the 17th minute which was saved off the line. Hurst followed up and put another shot on target, but that was deflected.
Loudoun United FC secured a goal in the 32th minute to even up the score. Goalkeeper Ben Lundt worked hard to keep the score at an even 1-1 with a key save to end the first half.
The second half started slow but Loudon found the back of the net again in the 58th minute. The home side abruptly struck for by another goal within the next minute to solidify its lead, 3-1. Loudoun took a 4-1 lead in the 83rd minute to expel any chance of a Rising comeback.
“The guys that I put on the field deserved to start,” said coach Rick Schantz. “I need to put the players on the field that did show some quality tonight.”
In full Rising fashion, the team did mount a comeback, finding two late goals before the end of the match. Quinn finished the night with a brace while Sivert Haugli was pressed into scoring position and created an own goal to bring the final score to 4-3.
Rising heads to Las Vegas next Friday, June 24 on Bally Sports Arizona and ESPN+ before returning to Wild Horse Pass on Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, July 2. That match, presented by NAU, is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
