PHOENIX (December 18, 2018) — Phoenix Rising Football Club announced today it had signed midfielder Jose Aguinaga for the 2019 season. Per club policy, the details of the contract will not be made public.
Aguinaga was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls. He wound up signing with United Soccer League Championship side NY Red Bulls II for the 2018 season playing 1,677 minutes over 24 appearances in his first professional season. He scored six goals and was second on the club with six assists. His 37 key passes ranked fourth on the club.

Prior to his professional career, Aguinaga was a four-year player at Rider University where he amassed 18 goals and 32 assists in 76 appearances. Over the course of his final two college seasons, he spent his summers playing with USL League Two sides Seattle Sounders U23s and New York Red Bulls U23s, scoring 11 goals in 25 appearances. The Madrid, Spain native spent his youth career in the Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid, and Getafe CF youth systems.
With the addition of Aguinaga, Phoenix Rising’s roster now stands at 16 players for the 2019 season.
